Joel B. Brahce

Philosophy of Care

I am in family practice because I love the variety, the breadth and scope of the specialty. Many days I function as surgeon or counselor in addition to physician. I enjoy seeing families, sometimes several generations at a time. Where heredity and environment play major roles in a person's health, it underscores the need to promote and live a healthy lifestyle. Regular exercise, a reasonable varied diet (with plenty of fruits and vegetables), judicious use of vaccinations, and substance avoidance can go a long way in promoting health (a sense of humor doesn't hurt either, as life is too important to be taken too seriously!). While the physician-patient relationship is central to good medicine, I enjoy getting to know my patients.

Clinical Interests

Joel B. Brahce enjoys treating entire families, sometimes spanning several generations. He provides most of his patients' health care, occasionally serving as psychiatrist and surgeon as well as primary care physician. Brahce believes that while heredity and lifestyle play major roles, the physician-patient relationship is the cornerstone to good health care. He actively promotes a healthy, nonsmoking lifestyle that includes proper diet, regular exercise, adequate sleep, and carefully chosen medications for chronic or acute conditions.
