The 10th annual UC Davis Bariatric Fashion Show
Each year, the UC Davis Bariatric Surgery Program spotlights bariatric patients as they model fashions for business, leisure and formal occasions. This year’s event features more than a dozen patients who successfully lost significant weight following their operations. Models will share brief personal stories and photos from their battles with extreme weight and then walk the runway in the latest fashions from local clothing stores. Proceeds benefit the UC Davis Bariatric Surgery Program.
Friday, Jan. 25, 7 - 9 p.m.
UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center auditorium, 2279 45th Street, Sacramento
Bariatric surgery is used for treating morbid obesity, which is typically defined as an individual who is 50 to 100 percent (or 100 pounds) above their ideal body weight. The surgery encompasses procedures that produce significant and sustained weight loss. The UC Davis Bariatric Surgery Program represents a comprehensive solution for achieving weight loss, and it includes extensive nutrition guidance and counseling for patients in addition to surgery. Since 2002, approximately 2,500 patients have undergone weight-loss procedures at UC Davis Medical Center. Those procedures include gastric bypass, vertical sleeve gastrectomy and the adjustable laparoscopic band.
The annual fashion show represents a way to highlight weight-loss accomplishments. Studies have shown that bariatric surgery can provide more than a cosmetic benefit. It can help address major health risks such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery has designated the UC Davis program as a Center of Excellence.
