UC Davis Medical Center Receives an 'A' for Patient Safety

April 24, 2018

UC Davis Medical Center has been awarded an ‘A’ for its efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S. The award comes from The Leapfrog Group, a Washington D.C-based nonprofit that promotes health care quality and safety. Leapfrog announced today that UC Davis Medical Center was one of just 750 hospitals across the nation to earn an ‘A’ grade for the Spring 2018 rating period. The rating is based on hospitals’ performance in preventing medical errors, infections and injuries among patients.

UC Davis Health wins national award for sustainability and waste reduction

In recognition for achievements in sustainability and waste reduction, UC Davis Health has received a Partner for Change Award from Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in health care. New county mental health urgent care clinic provides alternative to emergency department

Sacramento County is opening a Mental Health Urgent Care Clinic Nov. 29 for adults and children with less acute psychiatric crises or for those requiring an urgent psychiatric evaluation. UC Davis Children’s Hospital has been re-verified as a Level I Children’s Surgery Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS) for the next two years. The designation from the ACS Children’s Surgery Verification Quality Improvement Program focuses on the nation’s first and only multi-specialty standards of surgical care for pediatric patients. UC Davis Children's Hospital remains the first hospital on the West Coast, and only the fourth in the nation, to earn this distinction.

Study quantifying oral antibiotic overprescribing in outpatient settings receives CDC national award

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), adverse drug events from antibiotics result in roughly 143,000 emergency department visits each year nationwide. A research study, co-authored by emergency medicine associate professor Larissa May and published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 2016, has been selected for the 2017 Charles C. Shepard Science Award in the Assessment category.
