Kohl's Cares supports UC Davis Children's Hospital's trauma prevention efforts
Kohl's grants more than $285,000 for children's injury prevention
The UC Davis Injury and Trauma Prevention Program has received a grant for $285,292 from Kohl’s Cares® to support its child and adolescent injury prevention efforts in the Sacramento area. Kohl’s will formally present the donation at the UC Davis Children’s Hospital free summer concert on Thursday, Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. Since 2005, Kohl’s has donated more than $2.2 million to UC Davis Children’s Hospital to support its children’s health initiatives.
This year’s donation will support the UC Davis Children’s Hospital Kohl’s Buckle Up to Grow Up program, which provides car seats, bicycle helmets and life jackets and safety education for children in the community. Traumatic injuries are the leading cause of death for children over 1 year old, and the majority of these injuries can be prevented with education and the proper use of safety equipment like car seats, helmets and life jackets. Last year, the UC Davis Kohl’s Buckle Up to Grow Up program gave 1,437 child safety seats, 4,295 bicycle helmets and 306 life jackets to families throughout the region.
“Kohl’s Cares has been an important partner in our community outreach efforts to promote childhood safety and reduce injuries in the Sacramento region,” said Christy Adams, coordinator of the trauma prevention program. “The UC Davis Kohl’s Buckle Up to Grow Up program offers safety education by our expert staff, and our partnership with Kohl’s Cares provides free safety equipment for families in the community.”
Adams said the program’s success is due in large part to its numerous community partnerships, including family resource centers, area school districts and community centers in and throughout the Sacramento area.
"Our program is open to everyone, but has been especially helpful for low-income families who cannot afford to buy safety equipment," said Adams.
