Children's Hospital patient meets Marvel superhero stars

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.)

Four-year-old Jonathan Hunt has proven that he has the stuff that superheroes are made of.

The Fair Oaks resident experienced a stroke in January, after a freak accident on a trampoline left him paralyzed on his right side and unable to walk.

UC Davis patient Jonathan Hunt, along with his siblings, met Spider-Man.

“It was a parent’s worst nightmare,” said Sara Hunt, Jonathan’s mother.

After six weeks of hospitalization and daily physical, speech and occupational therapy at UC Davis Children’s Hospital, Johnathan was able to walk out the front doors of the hospital on his own and he continues with outpatient therapy.

This month, Johnathan had the chance to meet other superheroes (like himself!), along with his four siblings, his parents and two members of his UC Davis care team at Marvel Universe Live! Age of Heroes at Golden 1 Center.

“Jonathan is awesome. He worked so hard in therapy and it’s really gratifying to see how he has improved,” said Arsenault, one of his pediatric rehabilitation physicians, who joined the family along with Michelle Ramirez, Jonathan’s speech therapist.

After doing some exercises and exchanging high-fives with some of the Marvel superheroes, he settled into his seat to watch the live action show.

“When Jonathan was recovering from his stroke, he was our little superhero so this experience has a lot of meaning for us,” said Sara Hunt.
