Neurogenic obesity is topic of upcoming Kilmer Memorial lecture

Davis Gater Jr., Rocco Ortenzio Chair at Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center, will deliver the annual David D. Kilmer, M.D., Memorial Lecture on Friday, Sept. 7.

Gater's lecture, "Neurogenic obesity: Trimming the fat," is scheduled from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Education Building, Lecture Hall 2222, on UC Davis' Sacramento campus. Before the lecture, there will be a hosted cocktail reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Immediately following the lecture, there will be a reception from 8 to 10 p.m.

At Penn State Health, Gater is also a tenured professor, residency program director of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Spinal Cord Injury Fellowship program director, as well as co-director of Penn State's Spinal Cord Injury Center. His research emphasizes the effects of diet and exercise training on glucose and lipid metabolism, obesity/body composition, cardiovascular fitness, neuroplasticity and functional outcomes in spinal cord injury. His studies have been funded by numerous agencies within the National Institutes of Health.
