'Bending the Arc: Striving for Mental Health Equity in Trying Times,' June 28


The Behavioral Health Center of Excellence at UC Davis is hosting "Bending the Arc: Striving for Mental Health Equity in Trying Times," a presentation by Ruth Shim, on Thursday, June 28, from 5 - 6:30 p.m. in the Matsui Lecture Hall, Room 1222, Education Building on the Sacramento campus.

Shim is an associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and is the Luke & Grace Kim Professor of Cultural Psychiatry at UC Davis. She has specific expertise in the social determinants of mental health and disparities in access to mental health services.

Her presentation will:

  • explore the root causes of mental health inequity
  • summarize the existing data
  • consider promising approaches to ensure mental health and wellness for all

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.” Shim will discuss strategies to "bend the arc" in the current climate.
