U.S. News & World Report, which annually recognizes hospitals that excel in treating patients with serious and challenging injuries and illnesses, has again ranked UC Davis Medical Center as one of the nation's best hospitals.

UC Davis ranked among the top 50 hospitals in 10 adult medical specialties:
- Cardiology and heart surgery
- Ear, nose and throat
- Neurology and neurosurgery
UC Davis was designated as high performing in gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery in the medical specialties rankings.
In regional rankings, UC Davis Medical Center was recognized as No. 1 in the Sacramento metropolitan area and fifth in California.
U.S. News also released ratings for common types of care, with UC Davis Medical Center rated as high performing in abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, colon cancer surgery, heart failure, hip replacement, knee replacement and lung cancer surgery. The hospital met expected standards of care for aortic valve surgery and heart bypass surgery.
“U.S. News evaluates nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide,” said Ben Harder, chief of health analysis at U.S. News in a press release. “A hospital that emerged from our analysis as one of the best has much to be proud of.”
In June, U.S. News ranked UC Davis Children’s Hospital among the nation’s top 50 for pediatric care in five specialties: diabetes and endocrinology, neonatology, nephrology and, in collaboration with Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California, orthopaedics and urology.
The U.S. News Best Hospitals adult medical care rankings help guide patients to hospitals that deliver outstanding care across 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. The Best Hospitals methodologies include objective measures such as patient survival, the number of times a given procedure is performed, infection rates, adequacy of nurse staffing and more.
