UC Davis Health System and its Community Advisory Board will host the popular dance band Mercy Me! (Band) at their sixth annual outdoor concert on Thursday, Aug. 16, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Held on the lawn next to Shriners Hospitals for Children - Northern California at 45th and X streets on the Sacramento campus of UC Davis, the concert is free and open to the public. Participants should bring blankets or lawn chairs, and they can pack picnic baskets or purchase food and beverages on site.
Known as Sacramento's premier dance party band, Mercy Me! (Band) plays R&B, funk and contemporary jazz favorites -- from Aretha Franklin to Erykah Badu. The family-oriented, alcohol-free and smoke-free event includes a kids' zone with games, bounce houses, crafts and other fun activities. The UC Davis Trauma Prevention Program will provide free helmets and helmet fittings to help children play safe during bicycling, skateboarding and other sports on wheels.
The concert is one way the health system thanks community members for their support and recognizes students, faculty and staff for all of the hard work they do throughout the year.
"The annual concert has become one of our favorite ways of celebrating our pride in the health system and its strong connections to the community," said Susan Gamage, chair of the UC Davis Health System Community Advisory Board. "We encourage families and friends join us for some great music and summer fun."
The Community Advisory Board is an essential partner in helping the health system achieve its patient-care, research, education and public-service missions. The group's 28 members are business and nonprofit leaders who reflect the needs, beliefs and cultures of the region. Members serve six-year terms on a volunteer basis and are routinely solicited for their views and opinions and often influence decisions that impact the broader community.
