Brad Simmons has been appointed as the Chief Operating Officer of UC Davis Medical Center.
Simmons, the current chief operating officer at Saint Luke’s Hospital of Kansas City, will assume his duties at UC Davis Medical Center on June 20. Saint Luke’s Hospital is part of Saint Luke’s Health System and a 611-bed, nationally recognized tertiary, teaching and research hospital.
It includes the internationally known Mid America Heart Institute and the Marion Bloch Neuroscience Center. Saint Luke’s Hospital is a Malcolm Baldridge Quality Award recipient, and a three-time Magnet-designated facility.
At UC Davis Medical Center, Simmons will be responsible for integrating UC Davis Health System's strategic goals into efficient day-to-day operations at UC Davis Medical Center and its outpatient offices.
“Brad combines outstanding leadership skills and health care expertise with a commitment to patient care and community engagement,” said Ann Madden Rice, the medical center’s chief executive officer. “He’s known for deftly handling the complexities and logistics of a busy hospital as well as being very approachable and down-to-earth, all of which will fit perfectly into our team here.”
Simmons’ duties will extend from the busy level I trauma centers at UC Davis Medical Center and UC Davis Children's Hospital to facilities, professional services, health information management and other key logistical and support functions. He will lead the operations of clinical departments and divisions responsible for emergency care, surgical services, managed care and outpatient services, including a network of primary care offices extending from Auburn to Elk Grove.
Simmons’ varied responsibilities also include oversight of facilities operations on UC Davis' 140-acre Sacramento campus, home to more than 3 million square feet of buildings and a suite of major expansion projects.
Simmons and his wife, Angie, have a 10-year-old terrier, Chloe. They are self-described “foodies” who enjoy trying new restaurants and cuisines. They also like to travel and experience new cultures.
UC Davis retained Spencer Stuart, a health care executive search firm, to conduct a national search for Chief Operating Officer. It also assembled a search advisory panel that consisted of representatives from the UC Office of the President, the UC Davis Office of Finance and Resources Management, clinical chairs and faculty, allied health professionals, organized labor, the medical staff, nursing and contracting.
Simmons’ annual base salary at UC Davis will be $575,000.
