UC Davis Medical Center welcomes area's first baby born in 2013

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.) —

Allison Donecker and her husband Brian rang in the new year in memorable fashion. Their new son, John, was born at 12:20 a.m. at UC Davis Medical Center, making him the Sacramento area’s first baby of 2013.

The Doneckers, who reside in the San Joaquin County town of Tracy, arrived yesterday at the medical center in the late afternoon. Having a New Year’s baby was not something they were really thinking about until their labor and delivery team started cheering just after midnight.

“We didn’t care about the time,” said Allison, adding that she focused on breathing during her labor and not on the fact that the event carried extra-special significance. “We just wanted a perfect baby.”

Baby John, who is named after his grandfather, weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces. He’s the Donecker’s second child, and their second son. Both mom and little John are doing very well and are expected to return home in the next day or two.
