UC Davis Cancer Center receives donation for ovarian cancer research
In a brief ceremony this week, the Jags Solanki Memorial Fund for Ovarian Cancer presented a check for $35,001 to the UC Davis Cancer Center for ovarian cancer research. The money was raised during a highly successful golf tournament and gala in September, Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
The fund was established in memory Jagrati Solanki, who was diagnosed in 2010 with the disease. Mrs. Solanki lost her battle with ovarian cancer earlier this year. Her family says that her message to women was "know your body."
Among those in attendance at the check presentation were Ralph deVere White, cancer center director, and Gary Leiserowitz, professor and chief of gynecological oncology and one of her physicians, who will use the funds to support UC Davis research developing a potential ovarian cancer diagnostic blood test.
