UC Davis Health System and its Community Advisory Board will host the popular dance band Wonderbread 5 at its fifth annual outdoor concert on Thursday, Aug. 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Held on the lawn next to Shriners Hospitals for Children - Northern California at 45th and X streets on the UC Davis Sacramento campus, the concert is free and open to the public. Participants should bring blankets or lawn chairs, and they can pack picnic baskets or purchase food and beverages on site.

Wonderbread 5 is a high-energy party band that plays dance favorites from the '60s through today. The family-oriented, alcohol- and smoke-free event includes a kids' zone, complete with games, bounce houses, crafts and other fun activities for children.

The concert is one way the health system thanks its neighbors and community members for their support, and its students, faculty and staff for all of the hard work they do throughout the year. It's also an opportunity for families and friends to listen to music and enjoy a summer evening.

"The advisory board is committed to reinforcing connections between the health system and the community," said Karen Herron, the Community Advisory Board's immediate past president who chaired the planning for this year's concert. "We really look forward to hosting this fun music event, which gives us the chance to come together and celebrate those connections."

The Community Advisory Board is an essential partner in helping the health system achieve its patient-care, research, education and public-service missions. The group's 28 members are business and nonprofit leaders who reflect the needs, beliefs and cultures of the region. Members serve six-year terms on a volunteer basis and are routinely solicited for their views and opinions and often influence decisions impacting the broader community.

A variety of barbecued food and non-alcoholic beverages from Bistro Biagio will be available for purchase, including hot dogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, chicken and tri-tip sandwiches, fruit, ice cream and sodas.
