(SACRAMENTO, Calif.)

Parents of hospitalized kids got a chance to shop today as the Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy Department at UC Davis Children's Hospital held its annual Holiday Workshop.

Gifts available included dolls, games, Lego and baby clothes.

Thousands of donated toys lined the "shelves" as parents strolled the aisles choosing free gifts for their children. This is the tenth year for the workshop, which has grown by leaps and bounds thanks to the generosity of donors from the Sacramento community and beyond.

"We wanted to give our families an opportunity to enjoy some holiday cheer, to reduce some stress and to still participate in some holiday traditions," said Diana Sundberg, manager of UC Davis Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy Department.

Attendees were also treated to holiday refreshments and complimentary gift wrapping, with the help of more than 30 volunteers from the hospital and the community. A television, broadcasting a flickering fire, gave the room a warm glow. A craft station was also set up so parents could paint and decorate a keepsake gift box for their family.

"I thought it was pretty awesome," said Kendal Phrampus, mother of NICU baby Isabella. "I thought they would do this for the kids, but I didn’t know they would also do this for the babies. I thought it was pretty great. We have been here since before Halloween and this makes being away from home a little better."
