Richard Kravitz Richard Kravitz

Named for a former executive director of the society, the award recognizes outstanding service and contributions to patient care, research, education and community service in primary care internal medicine.

Kravitz, who is professor and co-vice chair of research in the UC Davis Department of Internal Medicine, researches the causes and consequences of physician behavior, the participation of physicians and nurses in strikes and work actions, the impact of the malpractice system on medical practices, and the effect of managed care on health services utilization and quality. He also examines ways to identify clinical opinion leaders, how physicians respond to patients’ requests for services, and how direct-to-consumer advertising of prescription drugs influences physician decision making.

Kravitz also serves as director of UC Sacramento Center, which educates future policy makers and links UC faculty with legislative and executive branches of government.
