Assistant Secretary for Health speaks at Dean's Lecture Series

Howard K. Koh, assistant secretary for health for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, will speak in Sacramento on "Best Practices in Public Health Leadership for a Healthier Nation."

Koh oversees 14 core public health offices -- including the Office of the Surgeon General and U.S. Public Health Service Corps --  as well as 10 regional health offices across the nation and 10 Presidential and Secretarial advisory committees. As the assistant secretary for health, he is dedicated to the mission of creating better public health systems for prevention and care so that all people can reach their highest attainable standard of health.

This lecture is free and open to the public. It begins at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, in the Education Building's Robert T. Matsui Lecture Hall, 4610 X Street, Sacramento. Initiated by Claire Pomeroy, UC Davis vice chancellor for Human Health Sciences and dean of the School of Medicine, these public forums provide opportunities to better understand the ways in which science, medicine, technology and advocacy can reduce health disparities and enhance patient care, quality of life and community health.
