UC Davis Medical Center named one of top hospitals with great oncology programs

(SACRAMENTO, Calif.)

UC Davis Medical Center has been named one of “100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs” by Becker’s Hospital Review, a national publication geared to hospital and health system leaders.

The Becker’s Hospital Review editorial team selected the hospitals based on clinical accolades, quality care and contributions to the field of oncology. The ranking recognizes hospitals that are “on the cutting edge of cancer treatment, prevention and research,” according to the publication.

The editorial board considers the ratings of reputable health-care resources including U.S. News & World Report, the National Cancer Institute, the American College of Surgeons and other credentialing organizations when making selections.

“Each organization has demonstrated a focus on patient-centered cancer care and emphasis on continual innovation in treatments and services,” according to the publication’s press release. “Many of these organizations also have a place in the history of cancer prevention and research, as they‘ve driven groundbreaking discoveries and made clinical milestones.”

Ralph de Vere White, cancer center director, was delighted to learn of the recognition from such a well-regarded publication.

“Not only should this be viewed as an important distinction for the faculty and staff of our cancer center and research programs,” he said, “but for the entire region and network of communities that we are honored to serve.”

UC Davis was one of nine hospitals in California selected among the top 100 in cancer care and the only hospital in the greater Sacramento region to make the list. UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center earned the highest honor in oncology in 2012, becoming the nation’s 41st “comprehensive” cancer center to be designated by the National Cancer Institute. UC Davis Medical Center also has been listed as a top hospital for cancer by the U.S. News & World Report the past two years.
