Community invited to UC Davis Children's Hospital's free summer concert

The young and the young at heart are invited to a free outdoor summer concert featuring music by Sacramento dance band Hip Service, a special player appearance from the Sacramento Republic FC, entertainment from the Radio Disney Road Crew and a kids zone. The event is presented by UC Davis Children’s Hospital and co-hosted by the UC Davis Health System Community Advisory Board and Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California.

The concert will be held on Thursday, Aug. 7, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the lawn adjacent to Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California at the intersection of X and 45th streets in Sacramento. The smoke- and alcohol-free event is open to the public. There is no charge for attendance. Free parking will be available in UC Davis lots as well as the Shriners garage.

Since its inception in 1996, Hip Service has taken Northern California by storm. The group, comprised of world-class performers, has become one of the most in-demand live acts in Northern California, performing dance hits from the '60s through today.

In addition, the summer concert will feature:

  • A player visit from Sacramento Republic FC, Sacramento's USL PRO soccer club.
  • An interactive show from the Radio Disney Road Crew before the concert to get kids up and moving.
  • Free bike helmets, courtesy of Kohl’s Cares™, to the first 100 children to visit the UC Davis Trauma Prevention and Outreach booth. The staff that support Kohl's Buckle Up to Grow Up program will offer free helmet fittings and share tips for keeping kids safe and healthy year-round.
  • A diaper drive. The public is invited to donate a new package of diapers, wipes or pull-ups to the UC Davis Children's Hospital booth.
  • Games, crafts, bounce houses and clowns in the kids zone.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and picnic baskets. Food will be available to purchase from vendors at the UC Davis Health System Farmers Market, which offers an assortment of farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, artisan cheeses, baked goods, specialty items and more.

The outdoor concert celebrates UC Davis’ relationships with adjacent neighborhoods and thanks local residents, as well as the broader community, for their support and engagement. The event also is an opportunity to say thank you to faculty members, students and employees across the university whose exceptional work has helped make UC Davis a world leader in education, research and clinical care.

The UC Davis Health System Community Advisory Board has helped facilitate community engagement. It is a valued partner that helps the health system achieve its patient-care, research, education and public-service missions. The group’s 28 members are business and nonprofit leaders who reflect the needs, beliefs and cultures of the region. Members serve four-year terms on a volunteer basis and are routinely solicited for their views and opinions on decisions that affect the broader community.
