The affiliation brings the expertise of the region’s only academic medical center to patients at Elica’s eight community-based health centers across Sacramento and West Sacramento. Elica is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), a federally funded nonprofit clinic that specializes in serving Medicare and Medicaid recipients.

The agreement between Elica and UC Davis Health was finalized this month and takes effect immediately.

“Our new affiliation with Elica is a great example of UC Davis’ commitment to its mission of teaching, research, public service and clinical care,” said Ann Madden Rice, CEO of UC Davis Medical Center. “At Elica’s eight health centers, our resident physicians will help meet the needs of a growing patient population, especially those patients from underserved communities. Plus, our medical and nursing students will experience the significant learning opportunities that Elica clinics can provide.”

“We are excited about the opportunities that this new partnership with UC Davis Health holds for Elica Health Centers, particularly the impact it will have on improving the quality of our patient care,” said Kenneth McGuire, CEO of Elica Health Centers. “The agreement provides for the provision of broader research resources, analytics support and access to advanced clinical treatments by UC Davis Health to Elica, all of which will serve to improve our patient outcomes.”

Under the agreement, UC Davis Health and Elica will collaborate to improve health care in the Sacramento region by advancing these four goals:

  • Expanding education and training: UC Davis Health resident physicians, interns, medical students, and nursing students will gain first-hand learning experiences while providing care to community members in need. As an academic medical center, UC Davis Health will provide educational and training opportunities to Elica physicians, clinical staff and other providers.
  • Advancing research: Elica patients will have greater access to advanced clinical trials and research through UC Davis Health. Elica and UC Davis can take part in joint research with the goal of enhancing patient care.
  • Enhancing clinical care: Together, UC Davis Health and Elica will provide patients with high quality care, improving access with innovative ways of delivering services such as telemedicine and mobile clinics.
  • Increasing community service to address the region’s health care needs: UC Davis and Elica will develop and implement new programs to address health care needs specific to the Sacramento region.
