Nearly 500 staff, faculty, students and neighbors enjoyed live music, food and fun at last week’s free summer concert, presented by UC Davis Children’s Hospital. The event was co-hosted by the UC Davis Health System Community Advisory Board and Shriners Hospitals for Children – Northern California.
Ann Madden Rice, CEO of UC Davis Medical Center and Children's Hospital, provided the welcome remarks. Popular Sacramento band Hip Service headlined the event, performing dance hits from the 1960s through today.
It was the perfect soundtrack for the evening, which included games, crafts and bounce houses in the Kids Zone. Radio Disney hosted an interactive show before the concert to get kids up and moving. Two Sacramento Republic FC soccer players, Mickey Daly and Rodrigo Lopez, signed autographs and posed for photographs with fans at their booth. Food was provided at the UC Davis Health System Farmers Market, including an assortment of farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, artisan cheeses, baked goods, specialty items and more.
Staff from UC DavisTrauma and Injury Prevention shared tips for keeping kids safe and healthy year-round. The UC Davis Injury and Trauma Prevention Program fitted kids with free bicycle helmets, and received a $285,292 donation from its sponsor, Kohl’s Cares™. Christy Adams, trauma prevention coordinator, received the check on behalf of UC Davis Children’s Hospital.
The summer concert celebrates UC Davis’ relationships with adjacent neighborhoods and thanks local residents, as well as the broader community, for their support and engagement. The event also is an opportunity to say thank you to the many thousands of faculty members, students and employees across the university who help accomplish the exceptional work that makes UC Davis a world leader in education, research and clinical care.
