Local solar technology company, SMA America, donated 1,800 teddy bears to benefit sick and injured children at UC Davis Children’s Hospital this week.
“We wanted to make a positive impact in our local community and help brighten the day of children at a local hospital. Since I am a UC Davis graduate, we decided UC Davis Children’s Hospital is the perfect place to bring some much needed cheer,” said Justin Dyke, social media specialist at SMA.
Patients eagerly made their way into the playroom where they received a white teddy bear with a blue T-shirt that said “Sunny Bear.” Their faces lit up at the sight of all the bears and many held on tight to their new special friend.
“Years ago when my son was in the hospital, he received a teddy bear that meant the world to him. He still has it,” said Brad Dore, director of marketing at SMA.
Diana Sundberg, manager of UC Davis Child Life and Creative Arts Therapy Department, was grateful for SMA America’s donation.
“We are honored that community partners, like SMA America, want to reach out and help our children. Patients here have been through a lot and simple acts of kindness such as this go a long way toward their recovery,” said Sundberg.
