More than 70 golfers participated in Monday’s Gratitude Golf Tournament, hosted by Children’s Miracle Network at UC Davis. Located at the Yocha Dehe Golf Club, the event featured a day of golf, gratitude and fellowship in support of children’s health and UC Davis Children’s Hospital. The event was made possible by a $5,000 golf grant from Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation.
James Marcin, chief of pediatric critical care at UC Davis Children’s Hospital, and Charlie Albertalli, head of corporate partnerships at Children’s Miracle Network at UC Davis, provided the welcome remarks, before foursomes teed off in a shotgun start. Some of the day’s unique challenges included a wheelchair hole, where golfers were required to putt from the chair, and a marshmallow hole, which replaced the golf ball with a marshmallow.
The day’s events ended with an awards reception, with prizes for the longest drive, the closest to the pin and the “most honest.” Dennis Styne, chair of pediatric endocrinology at UC Davis Children’s Hospital and the Yocha Dehe endowed chair, also thanked attendees for their continued support of UC Davis Children’s Hospital and encouraged their continued participation in fundraising.
“[With funds raised], we help treat children throughout Northern California and we do more than that. We develop new ways of treating children in Northern California that spreads throughout the world. There is an impact on what you are doing,” said Styne.
