The Firefighters Burn Institute Regional Burn Center at UC Davis was among the honorees today at the 15th Annual Red Cross Hero Recognition event that paid tribute to community members from El Dorado, Placer, Sacramento and Yolo counties who took action to help others and show extraordinary human compassion during times of crisis.
The burn center’s surgeons, nurses, physical therapists, social workers, support staff and volunteers were honored in the “Spirit of the Red Cross” category for their care of the firefighters injured while containing the Butte and Valley fires.
“We are so fortunate to have the highly trained and focused team it takes to mobilize quickly and effectively in treating burn injuries,” said Len Sterling, nurse manager of the burn center at UC Davis. “Our partnership with the Firefighters Burn Institute plays a big role in our ability to go beyond medical treatment in helping patients survive and rebuild their lives.”
Proceeds from the event, which was held in Woodland, will support disaster relief and training programs of the American Red Cross Gold Country Region.
The burn center is a national leader in providing care, research, education and advocacy that improves outcomes for adults and children with burn injuries.
