Kathleen Tong, M.D.

Clinical/Research Interests
Dr. Tong's clinical interests rest in the management of heart failure patients, an expanding population in the United States. Research over the last two decades has brought the medical community many effective pharmaceutical and surgical treatments for heart failure, and patients currently have a better chance at having a meaningful quality of life than ever before. I believe in a multidisciplinary approach to managing chronic diseases and empowering patients through education abut their condition. I am currently involved in a research project that evaluates the effectiveness of a multidisciplinary strategy in the transition of care of heart failure patients from the inpatient to the outpatient setting. I have additional training in advanced heart failure therapies such as heart transplantation and mechanical assist devices so that I can help patients who are at the end stages of their disease navigate all possible treatment options. My primary goals are to ensure that my patients have the best possible quality of life and survival by providing access to all appropriate therapies for their heart failure and to help them understand their condition so that they become members of the care team.
