David H. Wisner

Clinical Interests

Dr. Wisner is a nationally recognized surgeon who specializes in evaluating and treating patients with shock and traumatic injuries, including abdominal and head injuries. He has special interests in improving the quality of trauma care at the community level and has supported or led the development of trauma centers throughout the state.

Dr. Wisner has held a number of leadership positions at UC Davis Medical Center, including chief of staff, chair of the bioethics committee, chief of trauma surgery and interim chair of surgery. Dr. Wisner has also been involved in extensive quality improvement and medical staff activities.  


Research/Academic Interests

Dr. Wisner has contributed to numerous studies on trauma, serious injury and critical-care medicine. His efforts have improved techniques for the resuscitation of patients with shock or uncontrolled hemorrhage and led to new protocols for teaching advanced life support to residents and medical students.

He is an integral part of the educational efforts of the School of Medicine and also is actively involved with the multidisciplinary faculty practice group at UC Davis.
