J. Douglas Kirk, M.D. is Chief Medical Officer of UC Davis Medical Center, a 619-bed acute-care teaching hospital in Sacramento, California. He has a broad portfolio of responsibilities, including leading and directing the professional portion of the clinical delivery system between the medical center and its partner medical staff organization. He serves as a liaison to the self-governed medical staff, as well as the senior officer in the medical center for patient safety and quality, and also oversees the medical center’s licensure and accreditation functions.
Dr. Kirk represents the medical center on UC Health’s system-wide panel of five medical centers and on the Chief Medical Officer Group of the University Health System Consortium, a national team of medical leaders influencing quality improvement in U.S. academic medical centers.
Dr. Kirk joined the UC Davis Department of Emergency Medicine in 1991 and has served as Vice Chair of Clinical Operations and Medical Director of the Chest Pain Evaluation Unit.
An accomplished physician and scientist, Dr. Kirk has been an investigator for numerous clinical trials and has authored more than 150 journal articles, book chapters and abstracts on emergency cardiovascular care.
