Joerg Lehmann

Clinical/Research Interests

Dr. Lehmann is an Associate Adjunct Professor with a strong interest in clinical research, quality control, and implementation of new clinical technology. He has worked in the area of image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and started the department's image registry protocol. He also contributed to the work of the Advanced Technology Consortium (ATC), which facilitates the conduct of NCI-sponsored advanced technology radiation therapy clinical trials that require digital data submissions while maintaining patient confidentiality (atc.wustl.edu). Dr. Lehmann has also worked on nanoparticle-enabled hyperthermia, specifically on combined nanoparticle thermotherapy and radiation therapy in cells and in a nude mouse model. One of Dr. Lehmann's strong interests is Monte Carlo simulations of radiation transport. Using Monte Carlo simulations and measurements, Dr. Lehmann is working with other UCD faculty on an industry-sponsored project investigating the impact of radiation treatment on mandibles containing metal plates. Dr. Lehmann has been involved in dosimetry for in vivo studies on the effect of low doses of ionizing radiation on humans for several years. This includes Monte Carlo simulations of radiation dose to areas outside the treatment fields and measurements in this low-dose region. Dr. Lehmann is currently engaged as a Senior Medical Physicist with the Australian Clinical Dosimetry Service in Melbourne, Australia.
