Tania Ferguson, M.D.

Clinical/Research Interests
Trained by Dr. Joel Matta and Dr. Jeff Mast, I have focused my clinical experience in the operative treatment of pelvic and acetabular fractures as well as in periacetabular osteotomy and anterior hip replacement surgery. I am dedicated to a career path that will allow me to reproduce the technical skill and the academic understanding of my mentors, who I consider the leading experts in the field. While the number of patients with severe pelvic injuries continues to increase, the ideal treatment of these injuries is not understood. I hope to study injuries of the pelvic ring in an ongoing collaborative effort to develop treatment protocols that can reproducibly improve the functional outcomes after these devastating injuries.
Philosophy of Care
Preservation of the hip in the young patient, either after fracture or secondary to congenital abnormality, is a priority that will consume my technical dedication and academic thought throughout my career. I believe that aggressive pursuit of excellent articular reduction while respecting the biologic environment of the fractured bone will optimize the outcome in fractures around the hip and pelvis as well as the rest of the body. I believe that my surgical abilities directly influence my patients' outcomes, and I will constantly try to improve my technical skills and existing surgical techniques to better my patients.
