Dr. Sweet has clinical interests in infectious diseases in obstetrics and gynecology, sexually transmitted diseases, and general obstetrics and gynecology. His research activities over his long career have focused on sexually transmitted diseases, vaginitis and pelvic infections. Dr. Sweet has written nearly 200 articles, book chapters, books and papers in his field of expertise, and serves as a consultant to the editor of many medical publications, including Obstetrics-Gynecology, Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Journal of Infectious Diseases, American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Journal of the American Medical Association, and New England Journal of Medicine.
