Ted Wun, M.D.

Clinical/Research Interests
Ted Wun's main professional interests are medical education and clinical translational investigation. His primary areas of research have been in vascular complications of sickle cell disease (SCD) and the association of cancer and thrombosis. He and his colleagues demonstrated significant platelet and leukocyte activation in SCD and described the platelet-erythrocyte aggregates in these patients. He has participated in several multi-center therapeutic trials in SCD and is the former Chair of the Sickle Cell Disease Advisory Committee of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. In collaboration with other investigators at UC Davis and the California Cancer Registry, they are presently engaged in describing the epidemiology of venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients with a variety of cancers. This work has identified certain cancer types and predictive factors associated with a high risk of symptomatic VTE.
In his role as associate dean for research in the School of Medicine, Wun is responsible for expanding the breadth and depth of research at the health system, as well as implementing the health system's 2011-2016 Strategic Plan to increase high-impact, interdisciplinary research.
