Joseph W. Leung specializes in all types of gastroenterological conditions. He is one of the leading biliary endoscopists in the United States and well-recognized in Asia for his work on biliary stones and cholangitis. He is the director of the GI Fellowship Training Program for UC Davis Health System and the Department of Veterans Affairs Northern California Health Care System. Leung has pioneered several therapeutic endoscopy techniques for patients with gastrointestinal problems. His research focuses on clinical management of cholangitis, design of biliary stents, pathogenesis of biliary stent blockage in relation to bacterial interaction, and methods for prevention of biliary biofilms. He also is studying endoscopic management of gastrointestinal bleeding, recurrent pyogenic cholangitis, and endoscopic stenting for malignant obstructive jaundice.
