General Psychiatry PGY-1 Clinical Rotations
PGY-1 Resident Typical Schedule
- The intern year starts on June 25th each year.
- There are 13 blocks of 4-week rotations each year.
- Half of the intern class rotates through the non-psychiatric rotations while the other half is rotating through the psychiatric rotations. The switch occurs in early January.
Psychiatric rotations include combinations of the following:
- A typical work week is 8:00 or 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday - Friday unless on Psychosomatic Medicine Service call.
- Psychosomatic Medicine Service
- Jail Psychiatric Service (JPS)
- VA Outpatient
- Addiction Medicine
Call Schedule
- During the psychiatry rotation interns take weekend on-site Psychosomatic Medicine Service call from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. and continue with at-home overnight call until 8AM the following day.
- Interns also take weekday Psychosomatic Medicine Service call at home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m.
- The total number of call days for interns during the psychiatry rotation averages 25.
Non-Psychiatric rotations include a combination of the following:
- Inpatient Internal Medicine (3 blocks) with in-house overnight call every 4 to 5 days depending on work site. 6-day work weeks are typical on Medicine.
- Outpatient Pediatric Urgent Care is one month with an average of 14 to 16 workdays with 4 to 8 hour shifts on weekdays and some weekend days included.
- Neurology Inpatient or Outpatient (2 blocks) with in-house overnight call once per week. Monday-Friday work weeks are typical on Neurology.
