Dr. Xiong earned his medical degree from UC Davis and completed his post-graduate residency training in both psychiatry and internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center. He is board-certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry (2008), American Board of Internal Medicine (2006), and American Medical Directors Association in Long-term Care Medicine (2011). He teaches and practices at the Sacramento County Mental Health Treatment Center, where he serves as the medical director. Dr. Xiong also provides consultation to long-term care facilities, especially in the area of appropriate psychiatric medication usage and gradual dose reduction, conservatorship evaluations, and interdisciplinary team management of complex behavioral issues due to Alzheimer’s and other dementias. His writing and research focuses on the interface between psychiatry and medicine, especially in the elderly and people with medical-psychiatric comorbid conditions.
