Dr. Ton has a particular interest in cross-cultural psychiatry and working with underserved patient communities, especially Southeast Asian refugees. He believes in the importance of utilizing psychodynamic principles when caring for patients in medication management and support. Dr. Ton earned a master's degree in public health from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1996, and was the recipient of an American Psychiatric Association Center for Mental Health Services Minority Fellowship in 2000. Dr. Ton has developed a patient database called PsychNotes, which allows for rapid entry of clinical, demographic and insurance information. He is currently exploring issues faced by ethnic minorities in the mental health system and applying his experience in qualitative research methodology.
