Dr. Servis serves as the training director for the department's general psychiatry and combined psychiatry/family practice residency training programs. He focuses on consultation and telepsychiatry services. His interests include the effects of stress on medical students and impact of stress intervention programs; he also advocates enhanced psychosocial curricula for medical education programs. Dr. Servis has been honored with four Residents' Outstanding Faculty Awards since 1991, a UC Davis Excellence in Teaching Award, and the 1997 Association for Academic Psychiatry Western Region Teacher of the Year Award. He is an American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology examiner and a member of the California Task Force on Families and Mental Health. His research centers on psychiatric ethics, consultation-liaison psychiatry, medical education, and the role of psychotherapy in treating patients with severe personality disorders.
