Dr Giroux is a general adult psychiatrist who is currently the medical director at the Aftercare clinic (APSS Stockton) as well as the site director for resident training. She also supervises third-year residents at the Behavioral Sciences outpatient clinic. She acquired her clinical experience in various settings, both as an inpatient and outpatient physician. Dr Giroux has a strong interest in trauma throughout the life span and how it affects all the body systems, as well as attachment styles. Writing connects her professional life to her personal interests. She is the author of four book chapters and of various poems that were published in local magazines. She is currently working on a textbook of case studies as a co-editor. She also co-facilitates a creative writing group at her clinic and she is part of the editorial board of Sierra Sacramento Valley Medicine. Her therapeutic approach is mainly eclectic and trans-culturally sensitive, with an emphasis on narrative, existential and psycho-educational perspectives. Dr Giroux believes in fostering recovery, self-efficacy and growth by eliciting each patient’s inner strengths and creative potential.
