Hinton to partake in live discussion of caregiving on KQED

Ladson Hinton, associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, will participate in a two-hour long discussion of issues surrounding caregiving for the elderly on Monday, March 31, on radio station KQED’s “Forum” program.
Originating from downtown Oakland’s Multipurpose Senior Center in the Oakland Veterans Memorial Building, the program will be broadcast from 8:45 to 11 a.m. Hinton and other guest experts will explore the financial and personal aspects of caregiving, and discuss resources for caregivers. Included in the discussion will be caregiving issues related to Alzheimer’s disease.
Hinton was formerly a Department of Social Medicine instructor at Harvard Medical School, where he conducted research on family caregiving to elders with dementing illness in a multi-ethnic sample. He is studying the role of family and psychosocial factors in cognitive impairment among Latino elders in Sacramento. He has also published several articles on Vietnamese refugee mental health and authored 14 articles and book chapters.
Hinton is the Education and the Information Transfer Core Director of the UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Center.
