IM/Psych residentsThe UC Davis Internal Medicine/Psychiatry Residency is a five-year program in which residents learn and practice excellent general medical, psychiatric, and integrated care. Graduates are board-eligible in both specialties.

The following is a summary of the UC Davis Internal Medicine/Psychiatry Residency Training Program highlights.

    • UC Davis is one of only two schools of medicine that have both family medicine/psychiatry and internal medicine/psychiatry residency programs. With both combined programs, we have 17 residents and 7 faculty, and we meet weekly for combined Med-Psych learning sessions.

    • Our IMP residents are a close-knit group. Many of our residents are leaders in their community and are very involved extracurricular activities. They have published in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks and have presented on Med-Psych topics at national educational meetings.

    • Our faculty have published curricula in both preventive medicine in psychiatric practice, as well as psychiatric care in the primary care setting including the Train New Trainers Primary Care Psychiatry (TNT PCP) Fellowship.

    • Sacramento is a fun and comfortable place to live.  It is close to the Pacific Ocean, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, San Francisco, and beautiful wine country!

UC Davis offers an elective for 4th year medical students who are interested in pursuing Med-Psych, PSY 421: Combined Internal Medicine/Psychiatry elective.  Students have the opportunity to work with combined faculty and residents to treat patients with a variety of complex, comorbid diseases in a fast-paced Sacramento County Integrated Behavioral Health Clinic.
