Mission statement

The Central California Psychiatric Society Women's Health and Careers Committee was founded in October 2006 in collaboration with the Department of Psyciatry and Behavioral Sciences. The committee meets monthly is composed mainly of psychiatry residents  at different levels of training. Its goals are to address the needs of women psychiatrists throughout their professional development and promote education and awareness in the community on women's mental health issues. To these ends, the committee strives to provide opportunities for education, collaboration, mentorship, support, and community outreach and partnerships, for both male and female members interested in issues of gender and mental health. 

Examples of past projects and future opportunities include:

  • Education
    • Contributed to the development of curriculum on gender and sexuality. Approved for the UC Davis Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences PGY-4 class (starting Spring 2008)
    • Members participated in workshops at the annual CCPS and APA meetings
  • Collaboration and mentorship
    • Opportunities to meet and collaborate with faculty members and grand rounds speakers
    • Opportunities to provide mentorship to medical students, through such events as participation in PsychSig panels and events
    • Encouragement of participation in various projects through such collaborations
  • Community partnership
    • Opportunities to work with such community organizations as NAMI and WEAVE  through participation in educational presentations and community events (e.g. Mental Health walk and health fair in October).
