Biomedical Informatics Faculty Search

The Department of Public Health Sciences in collaboration with the Healthy Aging in a Digital World initiative seeks an exceptional faculty candidate with expertise and interests in conducting research in biomedical informatics with a focus on consumer health informatics and gerontology at the rank of Adjunct Assistant Professor. The ideal candidate will be an emerging leader who demonstrates research expertise and ability to develop a funded research program in technology for healthy aging in home and community. Candidates should have deep expertise in research methods in consumer health informatics and experience utilizing information systems and models applicable to older adult populations in home and community environments.

UC Davis has extraordinary capabilities for applied research and practice in consumer health informatics, including world-class schools of health, centers dedicated to technology and social engagement, and colleges of engineering. Located in Sacramento, the capital of California, UC Davis has considerable involvement in state efforts to increase access to health care regardless of location or socioeconomic status. Successful applicants will join a dynamic faculty within the UC Davis Schools of Health focused on research, education, and the practical application of informatics to gerontology and health promotion in older adults.

• Applied biomedical informatics, with an emphasis on utilizing biomedical informatics theories, methods, and tools to address needs of older adults
• User-centered design for smart homes and smart communitites for healthy aging and technology acceptance among older adults
• Technology-enabled models fo care that address health disparities, healthcare access, and improved transitions of care for older adults
• Design, acquisition, integration, and analysis of heterogeneous data sources relevant to gerontology and health promotion in older adults - ranging from clinical phenotype data to sensor and mobile device data to population and environmental health data
• Novel approaches to measuring outcomes of digital health and telehealth interventions for older adults

The selected candidate will be an Assistant Adjunct Professor in Health Informatics within the Division of Health Informatics, Department of Public Health Sciences, UC Davis School of Medicine. The position will focus on the support of consumer health informatics, technology for healthy aging and transitions of care. They will pursue independent research and seek extramural funding for efforts across the UC Davis Health schools and the Healthy Aging in a Digital World initiative. They will be expected to participate in graduate-level teaching in the doctoral and master's programs in public health and health informatics. They will provide service at the school and universty. Collaborative research with other faculty in Health Aging in a Digital World as well as UC Davis School of Medicine, College of Engineering, Letters and Science, and Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing is expected.

Faculty will receive support through resources in the biomedical informatics graduate programs, the Healthy Aging in a Digital World initiative and will report to the Chief of the Division of Health Informatics to develop their own program of aging-technology research that builds across these resources.

Candidates should hav ea Ph.D. (or equivalent) in biomedical informatics, public health informatics, or nursing informatics; a Ph.D. in computer science, or engineering, or a related discipline with demonstrated experience/expertise in health informatics; or an M.D. (or equivalent) with demonstrated training (master's or equivalent) and experience in applied health informatics. A track record of relevant published research, teaching at the graduate level in health informatics, and potential to achieve strong extramural funding is expected.
