Residency

The UC Davis Medical Center Pharmacy Practice Residency is a one-year postgraduate program for motivated pharmacy graduates who wish to build upon their previous educational experiences to become effective practitioners. Residents in Pharmacy Practice are able to conceptualize, integrate and transform their previous knowledge and skills into improved drug therapy. By rotating through a variety of different practice settings and specialty areas, residents broaden their experiences and further refine career plans. In the process, they acquire confidence in their abilities, increasing their effectiveness as practitioners. The UC Davis Medical Center Residency program assesses each resident's unique needs and learning objectives and makes every effort to incorporate these into an individualized learning experience. In addition to developing competence in the four core areas of Acute Patient Care, Ambulatory Patient Care, Management and Drug Information and Drug Use Policy Development, the resident will have an opportunity to pursue areas of special interest. The resident will provide pharmaceutical care to diverse patient populations in a variety of patient care settings (e.g. Medicine, Medical Intensive Care, Critical Care Surgery, Pediatrics, Adult and Pediatric Clinics, Poison Control Center, Clinical Nutrition, Oncology and Managed Care). We also offer top notch primary care rotations with an affiliation with the Sacramento County Health and Human Services Program. In addition to patient care activities, the resident will participate in a performance improvement activity, write a medical staff newsletter article, present an evaluation to the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for a drug pending Formulary consideration, conduct and present a project, precept pharmacy students and participate in departmental management activities.

This program is accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Four residents are admitted into the program to begin in July.

Applicants must be highly motivated and dedicated to patient care. They should have completed a Pharm.D. curriculum, or equivalent experience, and must have good interpersonal and communication skills.
