The purpose of the Post-Graduate Year 1 (PGY1) residency program is to provide the opportunity
to accelerate the individual’s growth beyond entry-level professional competence in patient-centered care
and in pharmacy operational services and to further the development of leadership skills that can be
applied in any practice setting.

The Pharmacy Practice programwill also lay the groundwork for:

• Obtaining a position as a clinical practitioner in an ambulatory care clinic or hybrid model at a large healthcare institution
• Becoming a preceptor for pharmacy students and residents
• Becoming an adjunct or clinical faculty for a school of pharmacy
• Entering into a PGY-2 training program

The residency will be tailored to suit the resident’s individual goals and interests. The resident will typically spend
a majority of the year in the outpatient clinics and several blocks participating in acute care and administrative rotations.

• Residency project to be presented at Western States Conference
• Medication use evaluation
• Drug review for the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee

The resident will be responsible for assisting preceptors with clerkship teaching for pharmacy interns from University of California,
San Francisco and University of the Pacific. In addition, the resident will have an opportunity to participate in staff development and
education (nursing, housestaff, pharmacy students, and medical students).

The resident will fulfill service hours as part of the transition of care team and staff the weekend free clinics. The resident
will also be part of the Anticoagulation Clinic on-call schedule.
