Cardiology Residency

The University of California, Davis Health System, Department of Pharmacy is offering a one-year specialty residency in Pharmacy Practice focused in Cardiovascular Disease.
Cardiology related services are well-established and progressive programs at the UC Davis Health System. The UC Davis Heart Institute provides care for a broad variety of cardiovascular complications such as high-risk cardiac bypass surgery, cardiac catheterization lab, arrhythmia ablation, and acute or chromic management of heart failure, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, arrhythmias and congenital heart diseases. Clinical Pharmacy Services at the UC Davis Health System are provided in both inpatient and the outpatient care for patients with cardiovascular related disease, and is very active with related investigational trials. The pharmacy department antithrombosis service also provides active management of anticoagulant and hemostatic agents, and is active in related research activities. The cardiology specialty residency will provide residents with a comprehensive experience in the medical and surgical management of cardiovascular disease.
The UC Davis Health System offers many opportunities for both clinical and didactic teaching. The resident will be responsible for assisting preceptors with clerkship teaching for UC San Francisco pharmacy students and UC Davis Health System Pharmacy Practice Residents. In addition, the resident will participate in staff development/education (nursing, pharmacy, medical students, house staff ) and provide routine patient education. The resident will also be required to complete a research project during their residency and present their research at the Western States Residency Showcase.
Rotation Opportunities:
The major area of focus is cardiovascular disease with emphasis in the medical management including prevention and management of cardiac disease, potential adverse medication events, advanced cardiac life support and investigational therapies. There will also be exposure to antithrombosis management. Rotations will be tailored to suit the resident’s individual goals and interests, but will include opportunities in:

• Antithrombosis Service
• Clinical Pharmacology Consult Service

• Hematology/Anticoagulation
• Anticoagulation Clinic
• Nutrition Support
STIPEND
Approximately $48,450 (paid in monthly increments)

ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must have completed a doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree AND a first-year pharmacy practice residency or have an equivalent level of prior experience in hospital pharmacy practice.
The applicant shall be licensed in California by June 30, 2013. An on-site interview is required.
