Educational Scholarship

Creating new educational approaches to grow the next generation of pathologists, physicians, laboratory professionals, and faculty is a growing creative theme in our department.

Kristin Olson, M.D., creates and applies new pedagogical methods to undergraduate pathology education.  Her poster “Teaching and Assessing Professionalism, Interpersonal and Communication Skills, and Systems-Based Practice in the Pathology Course for First- and Second-Year Medical Students” was a finalist for Best Educational Poster at the 2015 meeting of the American Society for Clinical Pathology.

Hooman Rashidi, M.D., is a leader in on-line education and publishing.  He is the founder and editor of Hematology Outlines, the leading educational resource for hematology.

Lydia Howell, M.D., is well-known for her creativity and dedication to faculty development.  Her work on generational and gender differences in the use of family friendly policies and the effect on faculty career development in academic medicine has been funded by a NIH R01 grant and an Innovation Award from the American Council on Education and the Sloan Foundation.
