Residency Program - Case of the Month
April 2012 - Presented by Christina Di Loreto, M.D.
The patient is a 40-year-old Asian female status post right ovarian cystectomy and left salpingo-oophorectomy for seromucinous cystadenoma of the right ovary and mixed endometrioid and mucinous tumor of low malignant potential of the left ovary. She subsequently underwent right salpingo-oophorectomy for a solid right ovarian mass and an elevated CA-125 discovered one year later. Microscopic examination demonstrated grade 1 endometrioid and mucinous adenocarcinoma. Endometrial curettage performed at the time of surgery showed adenocarcinoma. She again returned to the operating room for total abdominal hysterectomy..
The 99 gram hysterectomy specimen was notable for a 2.1 x 1.8 x 1.5 cm yellow polypoid mass within the anterior endocervical canal.
