Alternative Transportation Options
Carpools
Employees are issued one carpool permit, per carpool at a reduced rate. Carpool permits are valid in all B/C parking lots at UC Davis Medical Center. A 2-person carpool can park in any “B” parking space at the medical center. A carpool of 3 or more participants will have a designated carpool parking space. A 3-person carpool may also park in any “B” parking space at the medical center if needed.
Parking rates for carpool permits are $18.00 per person per month for a 2-person carpool, and $10.00 per person per month for a 3 or more person carpool.
In addition, each carpool member receives 24 Rideshare permits per year (2 per month), valid in any “B” parking space at UC Davis Medical Center. These permits are for days that each carpool member needs to drive to the medical center alone. If additional permits are needed throughout the year, carpool members may purchase up to 24 Clean Air Commuter Permits per year (2 per month) for $2.00 each.
EMPLOYEE CARPOOL PROGRAM WITH A NON-UC DAVIS MEDICAL CENTER EMPLOYEE
The non-UC Davis Medical Center employee must work within 5 miles of the medical center. They must also have a form filled out (available at the Parking & Transportation Office, and signed by their Transportation Coordinator verifying their participation in a carpool. The medical center employee will be issued one carpool permit, per carpool at a reduced rate. The carpool rates for this program are the same as listed above. If the carpool consists of one UC Davis Medical Center employee and one non-Medical Center employee, the other carpool benefits do not apply since the Medical Center employee will always be in possession of the permit. However, the employee would receive the Guaranteed Ride Home Program. If the carpool consists at least two medical center employees and a non-Medical Center employee, all carpool benefits will apply to the Medical Center employees only.
Vanpools
Currently our vanpool program is using Enterprise Vanpool vans. A vanpool consists of five or more employees who work at least 50 percent. UC Davis Medical Center vanpoolers must commute a minimum of 15 miles one way to the medical center three times a week and reside in the same or neighboring Zip Codes. A medical center vanpool can park in either a designated parking space or in any “B” parking space.
The cost of the vanpool program is determined by the miles the van travels divided by the number of passengers. Parking and Transportation Services offers a monthly subsidy to each vanpool member to help offset the monthly cost. Non-medical center employees are eligible to participate in a medical center vanpool; however, they are not eligible for any vanpool subsidies or other programs sponsored by UC Davis Medical Center.
In addition, each vanpool member receives 24 Rideshare permits per year (2 per month), valid in any “B” parking space at the medical center. These permits are for days that vanpool members need to drive to the medical center alone for an appointment. If additional permits are needed throughout the year, vanpool members may purchase up to 24 Clean Air Commuter Permits per year (2 per month) for $2.00 each.
