Conference Directors

Scott M. Fishman, M.D.Scott M. Fishman, M.D. is the Charles and Patricia Fullerton Endowed Chair of Pain Medicine, Professor and Chief of the Division of Pain Medicine, and Executive Vice Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Fishman is an avid teacher, researcher and clinician. His work focuses on educational and research activities in chronic pain, cancer pain management, spinal injection therapies, neuropathic pain treatment strategies, and medical informatics.

Rosane Oliveira, D.V.M., Ph.D. Rosane Oliveira, D.V.M., Ph.D. is Director of the Integrative Medicine Program at UC Davis Health System. The program focuses on lifestyle medicine, which utilizes the application of nutritional and other behavioral interventions combined with complementary and alternative medicine approaches to prevent and reverse chronic health conditions. Prior to her appointment with UCDHS, Dr. Oliveira spent 15 years doing research in fields encompassing molecular epidemiology of infectious diseases, microorganism resistance to drugs, cancer initiation and progression, and nutritional genomics.

Peter K. Gerritz, M.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Gerrtiz has clinical interests in integrative medicine, non-operative spine care, musculoskeletal medicine, and concussion management/traumatic brain injury. He recently completed a two year fellowship in Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona, designed by Andrew Weil, M.D. His research has focused on medical acupuncture for musculoskeletal and spine related conditions, shared medical visits for chronic pain, and the role of mobile health technology to promote lifestyle changes.

Ian Koebner, M.Sc., M.A.O.M., L.Ac. is the Director of Integrative Pain Management and a Clinical Instructor in the Division of Pain Medicine at UC Davis School of Medicine. His research and policy interests include pain management education and the efficacy and economic evaluation of integrative medicine. He is a clinical acupuncturist and board certified by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), and is licensed to practice in California and Massachusetts.

Gagan Mahajan, M.D. is Professor and Medical Director, Division of Pain Medicine, Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, UC Davis School of Medicine. Dr. Mahajan has both clinical and research interests in Pain Medicine.

Dennis Warren, J.D. is trained in classical concentration and meditation systems as well as medically oriented mindfulness practices including Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy For Depression Relapse (MBCT). He is a volunteer Clinical Professor in the Division of Pain Medicine, UC Davis School of Medicine. His workshops and retreats serve a wide range of groups – community, government, private industry, physicians, therapists, homeless women with children, at risk teens and maximum security prisoners. Dennis is also the founder of Sacramento Insight Meditation.
