If you are having an upcoming surgery your provider may recommend a pre-treatment dental evaluation. He or she wants to know that there are no oral infections in the mouth that may possibly travel through the blood and cause complications at the surgical site.

At your appointment, the dentist will examine the whole mouth checking for any loose or infected teeth. The health of the supporting gum tissues are closely evaluated. Radiographs are commonly used as a part of this evaluation. Any recommended treatment will be discussed with your surgeon so that he or she is aware.
