Operation of Hope (formerly Operation Esperanza)
Operation of Hope is a nonprofit organization which provides free surgeries and medical care around the world. Deliverables include facial reconstruction for birth defects, reconstructive surgery for burn victims as well as neonatal care and education. (www.operationofhope.org)
In 25 years of volunteer service, Operation of Hope has donated over 3,000 surgeries to patients and families in need in the countries of Ecuador, Zimbabwe, Malawi and North and South Vietnam. The UC Davis Department of Otolaryngology has participated in many of these surgical missions performing reconstructive surgery for children born with cleft lip and cleft palates, as well as an outer ear deformity medically referred to as microtia.
