Research projects funded during the last three years

Molecular Basis of Hearing Loss in Aging Mice

Ana E Vázquez PhD.---Principal Investigator
Agency: National Institute on Aging
Type: RO3 (AG17275) Period: July 1 1999-June 30 2000
The primary goal of this project is to establish the crucial molecules that contribute to the premature aging observed for the cochlear function of the C57 mouse strain.

Regulation Of Gene Expression In Noise Susceptibility
Ana E Vázquez PhD.---Principal Investigator
Agency: National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders
Type: R21 (DC05578-02) Period: September 25 2001- August 1 2003
The major goal of this project is to monitor the effects of noise over-exposure on gene expression in the cochlea, and by taking advantage of the availability of inbred mice strains that exhibit different degree of susceptibility to noise damage, to determine the factors that render the ear resistant or susceptible to noise insults.
